The narrow cobblestone streets, the fortress enclosing the city, the Piazza where people congregated and tried not to stare at the only Black person they had probably ever seen. The women cooked all day. The men hung out in groups talking and laughing in the piazza. The climb up the stone road was breathtaking and steep. It was an amazing month.
