β β β β β My husband and I visited a friend in Rome in December - about 4 weeks ago. We didn't do any sightseeing - I did fabric shopping!! Casa del Tessuto is a small shop with hundreds of fabrics. The owner(?) speaks English and allowed me to wander downstairs on my own and rake through wools and silks and knitteds and cottons and denims and anything else you can think of.
I finally bought some gorgeous pure wool ponte jersey, another piece of pure wool jersey with a tiny dog tooth check, a fab length of sweater knit, another Missoni style length in blue and a stunning piece of Christmas fabric!!
The shop is very full and it helps if you have an idea of what you might want to buy then you must spend a good hour raking through. Fantastic fun! Hubbie went for coffee and newspaper till I was ready to leave. Had to buy a grip bag to come home with!
Get a taxi. Too easy to get lost. And taxi back to your hotel. Safer.

β β β β β I was excited when I entered to see a large selection of fabrics. I asked for Liberty tessuto and was led downstairs by a gentleman where he pointed out a row of about 15 different designs at 25 Euros/meter. I thought for sure I would find something that would suit my needs for a dress IΒ΄m making but it seemed all the designs were a little drab and outdated. I looked through similar cottons and didnΒ΄t find anything really modern or bright. I thanked the man when I left and he turned away obviously frustrated to have wasted his time.

β β β β β I visited the shop after reading about them in a tourist magazine (and unwittingly walking past the shop several times!). The staff were wonderful, so helpful despite the language barrier. (In fact, as any good dressmaker knows, the language of textiles is universal :-).). I bought some fabulous quality Italian silk for myself, as used by Elie Saab, Versace and Dolce & Gabbana. The help and attention I received was first rate. I hope to go back again in the future, but this time I'm taking an empty suitcase for fabric. Bellissimo!

β β β β β Great shop and amazing service! I was looking for some material for a summer dress. Casa del Tessuto has an amazing choice of cotton and viscose. Everything is high-quality and has a great coloring. Also the employees of the shop were very helpful and patient with the lack of Italian knowledge and ability to choose what I want :D I definitely recommend!

β β β β β As my wife is a quilter, we just had to find a fabric store while in Rome. When we entered this store we we greeted with smiles and the staff were very helpful. The owner is a very friendly gentleman, and I feel bad I didn't get his name. The inventory of fabric was amazing. We had a great experience here and the fabric my wife bought will always hold some great Rome memories!
