The Romanesque church, referable to the years between the XII-XIII centuries, but which probably presumes the existence of a rural church of modest size, is one of the many possessions of the abbey of Pierno, linked to the virginian congregation of the famous monastery of the S. Salvatore del Goleto. According to a plaque, the church is the work of Sarolo, the well-known lapicide of Muro Lucano.
