Quando il 20 gennaio 1625 si fece l'entrata nella nuova Chiesa, infatti, soltanto le strutture erano state completate e solo nel 1676 la Chiesa sarà ufficialmente consacrata al culto ed intitolata alla Trasfigurazíone del Santissimo Salvatore, titolo che ha mantenuto fino ad oggi. Dal 1692 al 1729 fu eseguita da Vincenzo Messina e dai suoi figli Giacomo e Giovanni l'ampia decorazione a stucco degli interni. The design works began in 1536 when Baron Baldassarre Grifeo conceived the project leaving a testamentary legacy, but the actual factories of the Church date back to 1579, which, despite the financial interest of the barons, continued very slowly. When January 20, 1625 entered the new church, in fact, only the structures had been completed and only in 1676 would the Church be officially consecrated to worship and named after the Transfiguration of the Most Holy Savior, a title it has retained to this day. From 1692 to 1729 the large stucco decoration of the interior was carried out by Vincenzo Messina and his sons Giacomo and Giovanni.

Corredata da 10 cappelle laterali, presenta un coro ligneo di notevole fattura. Esiste anche una cripta sotterranea, riscoperta soltanto di recente, destinata ad accogliere per lo più le sepolture dei nobili. Dopo un lungo periodo di chiusura per lavori di restauro, è stata riaperta ufficialmente il 16 dicembre 2018. The mother church of Partanna, named after the Holy Savior and the Transfiguration, was commissioned by the Grifeo family, and built in 46 years, from 1579 to 1625. Equipped with 10 side chapels, it has a wooden choir of considerable workmanship. There is also an underground crypt, rediscovered only recently, destined to accommodate mostly the graves of the nobles. After a long period of closure for restoration work, it was officially reopened on December 16, 2018.

Nel 1968 la chiesa viene danneggiata dal sisma: la scossa del 25 gennaio provocò il crollo della facciata, del campanile di destra e delle coperture della navata centrale fino all'arco trionfale che portava all'ampio presbiterio. Nel 1970 iniziarono i lavori di ricostruzione dell'edificio: la facciata e il campanile furono ricostruiti in cemento seguendo l’antico progetto. La mancanza di fondi ha fatto arenare i progetti, lasciando incompleti i lavori di ricostruzione. Il finanziamento della Regione ha permesso, dopo una decina di anni di chiusura al pubblico, il completamento dell'opera di restauro e la riapertura della Matrice che è stata riconsegnata ufficialmente il 30 maggio 2018. Restauro ben concepito con parti originali identificabili e distinguibili dalle parti di nuova fattura. P	Peppe Partannese on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La Chiesa Madre (1579-1676) voluta dal Principe Baldassare Grifeo e dedicata alla Trasfigurazione di N.S.G.C (Nostro Signore Gesù Cristo). In essa si trovano sculture di Francesco Laurana, gli stucchi di Vincenzo Messina, allievo del Serpotta, e un bellissimo organo ligneo attribuito a Silvestre Ratto e completato da Antonino Mangiapane. Ha una pianta longitudinale divisa in tre navate. Ai lati dieci cappelle, cinque per ogni lato. L’abside centrale ospita le sculture che raffigurano la Trasfigurazione del Signore mentre l'abside a destra è dedicata al Santissimo Sacramento e quella a sinistra a San Vito Martire, patrono di Partanna. Tutte e tre abbellite dagli stucchi attribuiti agli scultori Messina. La facciata di stile barocco presenta un portale sopraelevato da un timpano triangolare, fiancheggiato da due campanili. The central apse houses sculptures depicting the Transfiguration of the Lord while the apse on the right is dedicated to the Blessed Sacrament and the one on the left to San Vito Martire, patron saint of Partanna. All three embellished with stuccos attributed to Messina sculptors. The Baroque façade has a portal raised by a triangular tympanum, flanked by two bell towers. On the external sides an elegant eighteenth-century loggia.
