L’edificio in origine faceva parte di un eremo francescano nato tra il 1320 e il 1340.
DescrizioneLa Chiesa del Sacro Cuore è' ubicata lungo il corso principale del comune di Genzano di Lucania. E’ un rifacimento e una riduzione del preesistente convento francescano, fondato tra il 1604 e il 1630. E’ preceduta da un ampio sagrato, con orientamento Est-Ovest, la facciata, in stile neogotico è a capanna con cuspide centrale sopraelevata. La parte centrale della facciata è delimitata da un arco a sesto acuto entro cui sono ubicati un portale squisitamente neogotico, sovrastato da una trifora ogivale e piccolo rosone quadrilobato. Le parti laterali della facciata presentano quattro aperture ogivali (due per lato), mentre sulla copertura si slanciano due torri campanarie quadrangolari, aperte da una bifora a sesto acuto per ogni lato e coperte da cuspide esagonale. L’interno è strutturato da tre corte navate, arricchito, tra le altre, da tele di Domenico Guarino e da un mausoleo in pietra in stile barocco.

The building was originally part of a Franciscan hermitage born between 1320 and 1340.
Description The Church of the Sacred Heart is located along the main street of the town of Genzano di Lucania. It is a reconstruction and a reduction of the pre-existing Franciscan convent, founded between 1604 and 1630. It is preceded by a large churchyard, with East-West orientation, the façade, in neo-Gothic style, is a hut with a raised central spire. The central part of the facade is delimited by a pointed arch within which there is an exquisitely neo-Gothic portal, surmounted by an ogival three-light window and a small four-lobed rose window. The lateral parts of the facade have four ogival openings (two on each side), while on the roof there are two quadrangular bell towers, opened by a pointed mullioned window on each side and covered by a hexagonal spire. The interior is structured by three aisles, enriched, among others, by paintings by Domenico Guarino and a stone mausoleum in Baroque style.
