A truly beautiful church. I was very impressed by the lava stone columns. The staircase and the panoramic view of all Catania are spectacular.

Raggiungibile attraverso una celebre scalinata o tramite una strada secondaria con l'auto, è sicuramente un luogo di interesse per chi ama i paesaggi. L'ampia terrazza adiacente permette di osservare tutto il golfo di Catania, dal messinese al siracusano. Uno spettacolo! This is certainly one of the most beautiful churches in the country. Reachable through a famous staircase or via a secondary road by car, it is certainly a place of interest for those who love landscapes. The large adjacent terrace allows you to observe the entire Gulf of Catania, from Messina to Syracuse. A show!
A	Andrea Piccione on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La chiesa madre, o matrice, dedicata da sempre a san Nicola di Bari, patrono del comune, esisteva già prima del Terremoto del val di Noto del 1693; finora il documento più antico trovato negli archivi diocesani, che attesta già il culto di San Nicola nel territorio di "Trium Castanearum" e quindi della chiesa, è del 1351. La struttura della chiesa subì profonde modifiche dopo il terremoto, in particolare per quanto riguarda il campanile, non in stile con il resto della struttura della seconda metà del XIX secolo. Dalla chiesa è possibile godere di un panorama mozzafiato, che spazia dalla Calabria al golfo di Augusta. Notevole è l'architettura degli interni e degli esterni, arricchiti da pregevoli lavori in pietra lavica. La chiesa si trova in cima ad una scalinata monumentale, che conduce dal sottostante Largo abate Ferrara al portale principale della chiesa. The mother church, or matrix, which has always been dedicated to St. Nicholas of Bari, patron saint of the municipality, already existed before the Val di Noto earthquake in 1693; so far the oldest document found in the diocesan archives, which already certifies the cult of St. Nicholas in the territory of "Trium Castanearum" and therefore of the church, dates back to 1351. The structure of the church underwent profound changes after the earthquake, in particular as regards the bell tower, not in style with the rest of the structure from the second half of the 19th century. From the church it is possible to enjoy a breathtaking view, which ranges from Calabria to the Gulf of Augusta. Remarkable is the architecture of the interiors and exteriors, enriched by valuable works in lava stone. The church is located at the top of a monumental staircase, which leads from Largo abate Ferrara below to the main portal of the church.
