La chiesa di San Michele Arcangelo di Vitavello, appartenente alla parrocchia dei SS. Cosma e Damiano di Mozzano, è uno dei gioielli “nascosti” del territorio ascolano. Gli storici ipotizzano che risalga al periodo altomedievale , durante la dominazione longobarda . Modesta all’esterno, sorprende il visitatore all’interno, con il luminoso affresco del santo titolare, con l’elegante figura dell’Arcangelo che si staglia sulla campitura di colore scuro, una Crocifissione dal classico impianto rinascimentale, una Maternità Sacra di gusto popolare, semplice ma vitale, un Sant’Antonio Abate e, forse, altri tesori celati dalle scialbature. Sono affreschi del XVI e XVII sec., anche se le figurazioni lasciano pensare a un riutilizzo di modelli più antichi. Nelle visite pastorali del vescovo Camaiani (1567-71) la chiesa di Vitavello viene, infatti, denominata Sant’Angelo di Acquaviva. ( fonte : "Le vie di san Michele " ) .

The church of San Michele Arcangelo di Vitavello, belonging to the parish of Sts. Cosma e Damiano di Mozzano, is one of the "hidden" jewels of the Ascoli area. Historians speculate that it dates back to the early medieval period, during the Lombard domination. Modest on the outside, it surprises the visitor inside, with the luminous fresco of the titular saint, with the elegant figure of the Archangel standing out against the dark-colored background, a Crucifixion from the classic Renaissance layout, a Sacred Motherhood of popular taste , simple but vital, an Sant'Antonio Abate and, perhaps, other treasures hidden by the dulling. They are frescoes from the 16th and 17th centuries, although the figurations suggest a re-use of older models.
