Questa chiesa si trovava fuori la cinta muraria e alla fine dell'800 è divenuta la seconda parrocchia della città. Chiesa carina da visitare, artisticamente e storicamente non al livello delle altre chiese del paese. A chi piacciono le chiese ottocentesche sicuramente non rimarrà deluso! Giuseppe Sapìa. I riti religiosi inizialmente sono officiati nella preesistente cappella periferica intitolata a Santa Maria di Loreto che, nel tempo, viene ampliata alla bisogna. Si deve attendere il penultimo decennio del 1700 per vedere completata la Chiesa nelle dimensioni e nella tipologia architettonica quale si conserva ancora oggi. E' quanto si evince dalla lettura sia di una cartella litica posta immediatamente sotto il frontone ad arco spezzato, sovrastante il portale d'ingresso, e sia sul coronamento del prospetto dell'edificio di culto; ambedue riportano la seguente datazione in numeri romani: MDCCXC (1790), essendo stato firmato il contratto di costruzione il 1° gennaio 1782 dal Priore, padre Michele Maria Rago, e da un "capomastro" abruzzese, già impegnato in loco "...con l'occasione delle fabbriche del Monastero di Donne Monache (le Clarisse della SS. Trinità)", dichiarandosi disponibile ad assumere l'incarico dal 1° marzo dello stesso anno al "...compimento del Cappellone e proseguimento e termine della navata della chiesa...", con la collaborazione delle proprie maestranze e con quella di operatori, manovalanza e fornitori locali. ", with the collaboration of its own workers and with that of operators, laborers and local suppliers.
