L'affresco sull'altare è del XII sec., la struttura attuale risale al 1687, anche se ha subito modifiche ed ampliamenti successivi. È parrocchia dal 1971. Il convento è affidato ai Frati Francescani Minori. Una visita, anche se frettolosa dovrebbe includere perlomeno l'accesso al chiostro del Convento, per rendersi conto della bellezza di tutto il complesso. Anche io sono rimasto a bocca aperta, quando attardandomi dopo la messa, ad un gruppo proveniente da Taranto veniva spiegato loro la storia....... Nel chiostro, quella edicola votiva c'è ancora !!!
