La cura dei particolari è l'unico elemento che accomuna le tante proposte racchiuse nella chiesa dei Servi di Maria a Sansepolcro: tornerò anche il prossimo anno! It is always an emotion to discover how many ways a nativity scene can be thought of and made: from the pyramids, to the igloo, from the Tuscan farmhouses to the cloister of the Poor Clares. Attention to detail is the only element shared by the many proposals contained in the church of the Servants of Mary in Sansepolcro: I will also be back next year!

Della primitiva chiesa dei frati Servi di Maria, giunti a Sansepolcro nel luglio 1255, non rimangono tracce. Probabilmente sorgeva nell'area oggi occupata dal Teatro "Dante". L'attuale costruzione fu iniziata nel 1294 e consacrata nel 1382, ma di questo edificio restano solo i muri perimetrali e le tre monoforegotiche sul fianco sinistro. L'interno dell'edificio è frutto di un completo rifacimento compiuto tra il 1717 e il 1727 con la costruzione della volta e della cupola e la decorazione a stucchi, nel quale furono però preservati gli altari secenteschi. Notevole l'effetto scenico della macchina dell'altare maggiore. L'abside è una citazione di quella della chiesa fiorentina della Santissima Annunziata. Vi è conservato un bel trittico di Matteo di Giovanniraffigurante l'Assunzione della Vergine e quattro Santi(1491). All'interno dell'altare maggiore è conservato il corpo del beato Andrea da Sansepolcro, che una tradizione locale vuole appartenente alla famiglia Dotti (culto approvato nel 1806; festa liturgica il 31 agosto per l'Ordine dei Servi di Maria, il 4 settembre in diocesi). The church of Santa Maria dei Servi is a sacred building located in Piazza Dotti in Sansepolcro. Prima di tale costruzione, i frati dell'Ordine avevano avuto la loro sede nei pressi dell'attuale Teatro Dante, fin dal 1255. A tale ordine appartenevano i vari Eremi della zona, come quello di Montevicchi, abbandonato poi nel 1297, e quello della Vallucola (o Barucola), situato sul versante di Badia Tedalda dell'Alpe della Luna, dove morì all'alba del 31 Agosto 1315 il beato Andrea di Sansepolcro, Andrea Dotti, il cui corpo è ora conservato nell'altare di questa chiesa. La struttura della chiesa dei Servi di Maria conserva l'aspetto tardo gotico solo nel frontone e nelle monofore laterali, altrimenti l'interno è stato completamente rifatto in stile barocco tra il 1717 e il 1727, con gli stucchi, l'erezione di una cupola con lanterna e di un campanile a forma di torre merlata, con trifore ad arco a sesto acuto.
