★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La prima pietra fu benedetta dall'arcivescovo Ercole Vaccaro nel 1620, quando era sindaco Mario Malena, discendente della famiglia di San Nilo.
In seguito i lavori furono interrotti a causa di difficoltà economiche , sanate grazie all'intervento di Olimpia Aldobrandini, principessa di Rossano.
A lavori ultimati, la chiesa fu dotata di uno splendido altare marmoreo, realizzato nel 1660 da Giuseppe Maria Baratta, come sostiene in uno studio G.Leone. Sull'altare è collocata una tela raffigurante il Santo nell'atto di rifiutare le insegne di Vescovo di Rossano. L'opera è attribuita alla scuola di Gregorio Preti.
Lavori di restauro furono effettuati alla fine del seicento, e soprattutto dopo il terremoto del 1836.
Nel secondo ottocento la chiesa fu sopraelevata con la volta a calotta ed ampliata con l'aggiunta delle due navate laterali e della sacrestia.
Il totale rifacimento della facciata,risale invece agli anni 1892-1896, la chiesa fu decurtata di circa un metro per allargare la strada, per cui la facciata fu, quindi, ricostruita integralmente, e venne realizzata in stile in tardo gotico dominata dal rosone centrale raffigurante la stella di Davide.
 The first stone was blessed by Archbishop Ercole Vaccaro in 1620, when Mario Malena, a descendant of the San Nilo family, was mayor.
Later the works were interrupted due to economic difficulties, healed thanks to the intervention of Olimpia Aldobrandini, princess of Rossano.
When the work was completed, the church was equipped with a splendid marble altar, built in 1660 by Giuseppe Maria Baratta, as claimed by G.Leone in a study. On the altar there is a canvas depicting the Saint in the act of refusing the insignia of Bishop of Rossano. The work is attributed to the school of Gregorio Preti.
Restoration works were carried out at the end of the seventeenth century, and especially after the earthquake of 1836.
In the second half of the nineteenth century the church was raised with a dome-shaped vault and enlarged with the addition of the two side naves and the sacristy.
The total reconstruction of the façade, however, dates back to the years 1892-1896, the church was shortened by about one meter to widen the road, so the façade was, therefore, completely rebuilt, and was built in late Gothic style dominated by the central rose window depicting the star of David.
