Sopra il portale vi è la testa di un animale cornuto che sembrerebbe un toro incoronato dalla presenza di ricchi vegetali a spirali e foglie linguate. From the Lombard period it was originally dedicated to San Mamiliano. It has a T-shaped plan and the facade has some bas-reliefs with interesting figures. Above the portal there is the head of a horned animal that would appear to be a bull crowned by the presence of rich vegetables with spirals and tongued leaves.

Sorge sulle sponde dell’omonimo lago, artificialmente realizzato negli anni Settanta del XX secolo, e dell’antico borgo medievale. Citata per la prima volta in documenti del 1260, nel 1564 fu adibita a oratorio dal vescovo di Lucca, per la difficoltà da parte dei fedeli di raggiungere la pieve di San Pietro di Careggine da cui dipendeva. Agli inizi del 1600 venne amplita e la piccola sacrestia costruita grazie alla comunità di Isola. La struttura è il risultato dell’annessione del vecchio ospitale e del piccolo oratorio. Successivamente fu realizzata la canonica e fu concessa in uso una vecchia torre per realizzare il campanile. Mentioned for the first time in documents of 1260, in 1564 it was used as an oratory by the bishop of Lucca, due to the difficulty for the faithful to reach the parish church of San Pietro di Careggine on which it depended. At the beginning of 1600 the small sacristy was enlarged and built thanks to the community of Isola. The structure is the result of the annexation of the old hospital and the small oratory. Subsequently the rectory was built and an old tower was granted in use to build the bell tower.

S	Sara Balderi on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Chiesina davvero suggestiva, con un bellissimo campanile che sovrasta tutta la zona. Vi consiglio davvero di visitare l’Isola Santa, perché è un luogo suggestivo, magico, fuori dal tempo. Se siete alla ricerca di pace, relax e di una fuga dal mondo di tutti i giorni, vi consiglio di venire. Non ci si mette molto partendo dalla Versilia. Davvero merita! Really suggestive little church, with a beautiful bell tower that overlooks the whole area. I really recommend you to visit the Holy Island, because it is a suggestive, magical, timeless place. If you are looking for peace, relaxation and an escape from the everyday world, I recommend that you come. It doesn't take long to leave Versilia. Really deserves it!
