È interessante vedere l'imponenza Delle due tele situate ai lati del transetto; la luce dei colori di questi due quadri, con la luce proveniente della chiesa, fanno emergere tutta la loro brillantezza. Fu infatti abbazia benedettina e dal 1286 tempio francescano. Sorge su un’area in cui vi sono tracce di edifici romani. Costruita in stile romanico a una navata, ne venne aggiunta una seconda e quindi una terza, quando nel 1742 fu sistemata nella sua attuale fisionomia a tre navate con cupola ceca sulla crociera. La chiesa è un complesso monumentale di grande valore artistico e di interesse storico culturale. Tra i dipinti all’interno vi sono: Trinità e Santi (1611) di Cesare Maggeri (primo altare a sinistra), e un frammento di affresco, Cristo Crocifisso, della maniera dei Salimbeni; il Perdono di Assisi (1574-1581), opera celebre del Barocci (abside).
