Oltre ai tantissimi fregi e statue che decorano l'imponente facciata della chiesa, il meccanismo a vista del campanile è l'elemento caratterizzante. Peccato per la cancellata a scomparsa che è stata installata. Oltre allo "stile" moderno (con saldature a vista), è stato creato un pavimento di pietre tonde (tipo spiaggia). Il risultato è una violenza su un capolavoro. Per questo motivo 4 stelle. Wonderful church with a wonderful bell tower. La facciata eclettica, progettata da Federico Frigerio, è in gusto neobarocco scandita da un doppio ordine di lesene, preceduta da un'ampia scalinata a doppia rampa e da un portico tripartito, arricchito nell'arco centrale da un timpano curvo con due statue di angeli.A sinistra del portico vi è l'antica abside romanica con muratura in mattoni a lisca di pesce e pietra scandita da lesene con capitelli a disegno geometrico ed archetti soprastanti. Sul fianco sinistro della chiesa l'elegante campanile settecentesco a tre ordini. L'interno della chiesa, con impianto a croce latina, presenta un'unica navata con volta a botte unghiata, cinque cappelle su entrambi i lati e due cappelle nei transetti. L'assetto decorativo generale risale all'ampliamento novecentesco ma le cappelle lungo la navata conservano in buona parte le decorazioni realizzate nel XVII secolo. Le pareti sono scandite da lesene binate sopra le quali corre un'iscrizione in lettere capitali mentre la volta a botte è ornata da motivi geometrici e vegetali. Nelle cappelle, pregevoli opere secentesche attribuite al Fiamminghino, Panfilo Nuvolone e Giacomo Cavedone. The church was built between the sec. XVIII and XX on pre-existing early Christian and Romanesque basilica. The eclectic facade, designed by Federico Frigerio, is in neo-baroque style punctuated by a double order of pilasters, preceded by a large double ramp staircase and a tripartite portico, enriched in the central arch by a curved tympanum with two statues of angels To the left of the portico there is the ancient Romanesque apse with herringbone brick masonry and stone punctuated by pilasters with capitals with a geometric design and arches above. On the left side of the church the elegant eighteenth-century bell tower with three orders. The interior of the church, with a Latin cross layout, has a single nave with a barrel-vaulted ceiling, five chapels on both sides and two chapels in the transepts. The general decorative structure dates back to the twentieth-century enlargement but the chapels along the nave largely preserve the decorations made in the seventeenth century. The walls are marked by twin pilasters above which an inscription in capital letters runs while the barrel vault is decorated with geometric and plant motifs. In the chapels, valuable seventeenth-century works attributed to Fiamminghino, Panfilo Nuvolone and Giacomo Cavedone.
