★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Costruita nel 1514, la Chiesa Madre si trova ai piedi del Monte Castello, nella zona più alta della città. L'impianto principale a tre navate, a croce greca, risale al XVI secolo, mentre la cupola è del XVIII secolo. È stata costruita riutilizzando materiale residuo di crolli del castello e delle mura. All'interno ci sono un antico crocifisso ligneo a grandezza d'uomo e una tela di ignoto autore del ‘600, ritrovata nel monastero di Sant'Antonio (sui cui resti venne costruito il cimitero cittadino) raffigurante Santa Rosa da Viterbo. Nella navata sinistra è stata posizionata un'urna contenente le reliquie di San Giustino de Jacobis; mentre all'esterno, sulla scalinata principale, sempre in onore del Santo, è stata eretta una Statua in memoria della sua canonizzazione, avvenuta nel 1975.
Con il terremoto del 1980 subì gravi lesioni verticali nella facciata, negli archi e nelle volte, con distacchi e crolli parziali intonaci e stucchi che hanno comportato la chiusura della chiesa al pubblico fino ai primi anni del 2000.
Built in 1514, the Mother Church is located at the foot of Monte Castello, in the highest area of the city. The main structure with three naves, a Greek cross, dates back to the 16th century, while the dome is from the 18th century. It was built by reusing residual material from castle collapses and walls. Inside there is an ancient human-sized wooden crucifix and a canvas by an unknown author of the '600, found in the monastery of Sant'Antonio (on whose remains the city cemetery was built) depicting Santa Rosa from Viterbo. In the left nave an urn was placed containing the relics of San Giustino de Jacobis; while on the outside, on the main staircase, always in honor of the saint, a statue was erected in memory of his canonization, which took place in 1975.
With the earthquake of 1980 it suffered serious vertical injuries in the facade, in the arches and in the vaults, with detachments and partial collapses of plaster and stucco which led to the closure of the church to the public until the early 2000s.
