Pietro, solo dal V secolo. Il monastero fu distrutto dai Saraceni nel corso dell'VIII secolo. Il sito divenne proprietà dei Colonna nel corso del XIII secolo, ma solo quando il centro passò ai Barberini, nel 1630 e dietro le suppliche della popolazione, papa Urbano VIII (1623-1644), incaricò suo nipote, il cardinale Francesco Barberini di restaurare la chiesa. Tuttavia il costoso progetto di risistemazione, non venne realizzato; fu papa Clemente XII Corsini (1730-1740) che nel 1732, con l'interessamento del cavaliere prenestino Lorenzo Stefno Mocci, avviò i lavori di rifacimento della chiesa che ha conservato il suo aspetto fino ad oggi. Tradition recalls that the church was founded in the time of Constantine, but the documents attest to the presence of a monastery dedicated to St. Peter, only from the fifth century. Non posso giudicare la qualità dei affreschi all'interno ,ma personalmente li trovo molto belli. Anche la facciata è molto bella con un piccolo colonnato. Famoso per essere stato lo sfondo di famosi film negli anni 60/70 tra i quali Pane amore e gelosia con Vittorio de sica e il Federale. Gode di un panorama mozzafiato che spazia dalla valle pontina in cui nei giorni con buona visibilità si può vedere L isola di palmarola fino ai castelli romani e alla parte est della capitale.
