L'originario impianto romanico si è conservato integro, soprattutto nell'aspetto massiccio delle strutture murarie che, con i restauri più recenti, sono state riportate allo stato di pietra a vista, in modo da restituire alla chiesa l'antica solennità medievale. Inoltre, numerosi altri elementi caratterizzano lo stile romanico puro, rimasto inalterato nel tempo: la imponente mole del campanile, scandito da cinque ordini di cornici, e attraversato alla base da un grande arcone sotto cui passa la via Vittorio Emanuele che costeggia la chiesa. L'interno è costituito da due sole navate (la terza è stata eliminata con i rimaneggiamenti susseguitisi nel tempo), separate da un ordine di cinque grandi archi; il presbiterio con rialzo; una fonte battesimale interamente in pietra, recuperata nel 1940 a seguito di lavori di scavo per consolidamento, e sistemata sul piccolo sagrato antistante l'entrata principale. Di notevole pregio artistico ed interesse storico, sono collocati: i quattro affreschi nei pennacchi tra le quattro arcate che sostengono il tetto del presbiterio; un coro ligneo del XVI secolo; una cripta sotterranea; un confessionale in legno del XVIII secolo. Da visitare. The Mother Church of Pietrapertosa, dedicated to San Giacomo, was built in the early medieval period, around 1400. The original Romanesque structure has been preserved intact, especially in the massive aspect of the wall structures which, with the most recent restorations, have been brought back to the exposed stone state, in order to restore the ancient medieval solemnity to the church. Furthermore, numerous other elements characterize the pure Romanesque style, which has remained unchanged over time: the imposing mass of the bell tower, marked by five orders of cornices, and crossed at the base by a large arch under which the Via Vittorio Emanuele passes along the side of the church. The interior is made up of only two naves (the third has been eliminated with subsequent alterations over time), separated by an order of five large arches; the presbytery with elevation; a baptismal font entirely in stone, recovered in 1940 following excavation works for consolidation, and placed on the small churchyard in front of the main entrance. Of considerable artistic value and historical interest, are placed: the four frescoes in the pendentives between the four arches that support the roof of the presbytery; a wooden choir from the 16th century; an underground crypt; an 18th century wooden confessional.
