Ai lati della scalinata sono ancora visibili i resti di una antica fortificazione all'abitato di Oneglia denominato Castrum Vetus Uneliae. Così ho fatto durante una recente vacanza a Diano Marina, dopo aver programmato la gita con l'aiuto di Google Maps. Uscito dall'autostrada ad Imperia Est, sono sceso fino al rondò sulla SS28, che ho preso in direzione nord, fino ad arrivare in Viale Europa, dove ho potuto parcheggiare. Un passante, al quale mi ero rivolto, mi ha spiegato come arrivare alla Chiesa a piedi. Dal rondò in fondo a Viale Europa, si prende una scaletta, che raggiunge Corso Dante. Lo si attraversa e ci si incammina in Salita Castelli. Dopo circa 300 m, questa diventa una ripida viuzza che conduce fino al Sagrato di Santa Maria Maggiore. Ammirata solo la facciata in stile Barocco Ligure, perché la Chiesa era chiusa, mi sono seduto sul parapetto dell'ampio terrazzo a guardare il meraviglioso panorama, sia verso monte, sia verso mare. Questo mi ha ampiamente ripagato lo sforzo della salita. Passing on the highway through Imperia, looking inward, I noticed a church in a dominant position and was revived me to go and see it. Admired only the facade in Baroque style Ligure, because the church was closed, I sat on the parapet of the large terrace watching the magnificent view, both upstream and towards the sea. This has amply repaid me the effort of the climb.
