Tutta l’area è importante a livello storico per la città dell’Aquila poiché Forfona con il suo Castello partecipò nel XIII secolo alla fondazione della città. Questa Chiesa è stata soppiantata dalla nuova Chiesa di Santa Maria di Forfona costruita nella nuova città dell’Aquila nel periodo della sua fondazione.
 Very old church, supposedly around the year 1000, built on an ancient Roman temple. The whole area is historically important for the city of L'Aquila since Forfona with its Castle participated in the foundation of the city in the 13th century. This Church was supplanted by the new Church of Santa Maria di Forfona built in the new city of L'Aquila in the period of its foundation.
