All'interno è custodito uno dei misteri più affascinanti del Salento, a metà tra il sacro ed il profano, la religione e la stregoneria. Nella navata centrale della chiesetta, si erge una pietra di origine precristiana inglobata nel pavimento che, presenta un foro al centro: è conosciuta come "pietra della fertilità". Il foro non è più grande di 40 cm, ma la leggenda narra che tutti possono passarci attraverso in quanto il foro si allargherebbe in base a chi ci passa, permettendo a tutte di fare il rito della fecondità. Si presume che il rituale consiste nello scambio di energia tra l'officiante e quella della natura, in particolare da parte di madre terra che è l'antico simbolo di abbondanza e fertilità. Come sempre accade in questi casi, la chiesa cattolica sentì la necessità di eliminare gli antichi culti pagani, senza ledere troppo alle tradizioni preesistenti, quindi fece propria questa usanza popolare inglobando la pietra dentro una cappella, facendo così in modo che, le genti non avrebbero sentito troppo l'opera di distruzione delle antiche religioni. Il giorno dell'angelo (pasquetta), i fedeli si recano in pellegrinaggio alla chiesetta per compiere il rito di fecondità e prosperità attraversando appunto il foro. On the outskirts of Calimera adjacent to the municipal cemetery, stands the medieval church dedicated to Saint Vito. Inside there is one of the most fascinating mysteries of Salento, halfway between the sacred and the profane, religion and witchcraft. In the central nave of the church stands a stone of pre-Christian origin incorporated in the floor which has a hole in the center: it is known as the "fertility stone". The hole is not larger than 40 cm, but legend has it that everyone can pass through it as the hole would widen based on who passes through it, allowing everyone to do the ritual of fertility. It is assumed that the ritual consists in the exchange of energy between the officiant and that of nature, in particular by mother earth which is the ancient symbol of abundance and fertility. As always happens in these cases, the Catholic Church felt the need to eliminate the ancient pagan cults, without damaging too much to the pre-existing traditions, therefore it made this popular custom its own by incorporating the stone into a chapel, thus ensuring that the people would not felt too much the work of destruction of ancient religions. On the day of the angel (Easter Monday), the faithful go on pilgrimage to the church to perform the rite of fruitfulness and prosperity by crossing the forum.

Il Lunedì dell'Angelo potrete assistere all'antico rito della Rinascita, che consiste nel passare attraverso il foro situato al centro della pietra. In pratica di tratta di un Tolmen, simbolo muliebre di fertilità e nascita, che (insieme a Dolmen e Menhir), è una delle più importanti testimonianze della preistoria. Adjacent to the Calimera wood, (or what remains of it) with myrtle, oak and pine trees, stands this ancient medieval church, important because it was built around the Sacred Stone. On Easter Monday you can attend the ancient rite of the Rebirth, which consists of passing through the hole located in the center of the stone. In practice it is a Tolmen, a feminine symbol of fertility and birth, which (together with Dolmen and Menhir), is one of the most important testimonies of prehistory.
