Sulle rovine della primitiva chiesetta fu edificata intorno al 1500 l'attuale edificio la cui esistenza è documentata sin dal XVII secolo e che poi è stato modificato, in parte, nel corso del tempo. A cavallo tra il settecento e l'ottocento, a ridosso dell'altare maggiore, venne costruito un locale per la sacrestia ed un piano rialzato per l'alloggio dell'abate. Questi, oltre che del culto, si prendeva anche cura degli ammalati morsicati da cani randagi e rabbiosi, ospitati in una specie di lazzaretto, sistemato nell'alloggio costruito al piano rialzato sulla sacrestia. Infatti, è del 1500 l'attuale cappella, che sorge sulle rovine dell'antica primitiva chiesetta. La cappella è stata ristrutturata e poi modificata, ulteriormente, nella facciata e con la costruzione dell'attuale campanile, avvenuta negli anni cinquanta del secolo scorso. Davanti all'attuale cappella sorgevano due olmi, dal fusto altissimo, con una circonferenza di circa 22 palmi, ed una quercia colossale. Questi alberi costituivano per l'edificio sacro un pregio paesaggistico di notevole bellezza e, per la gente, che il 15 giugno vi si recava e si reca ancor oggi a visitare il santo, costituiva un sicuro riparo dalla calura estiva. Sotto questi alberi si era soliti consumare il pranzo a sacco.
