In realtà la chiesa è ben più antica: viene citata per la prima volta in un documento ufficiale del 1165. Tracce dell'antico edificio medievale si possono osservare sul lato nord, in cui è presente una monofora circondata da un muro realizzato in mattoni e ciottoli di fiume disposti a spina di pesce. The Parish Church of San Silvano Martire is presented today in a neo-Romanesque style, the result of the restorations that have taken place since the eighteenth century onwards. In reality the church is much older: it is mentioned for the first time in an official document of 1165. Traces of the ancient medieval building can be seen on the north side, where there is a single-lancet window surrounded by a brick and pebble wall rivers arranged in a herringbone pattern.
E	Enrico Ripamonti on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ L'interno barocco (da vedere l'altare, il coro e l'affresco del "Trionfo di San Silvano" sulla volta del presbiterio) contrasta con la semplicità dell'esterno dove si ammira la facciata neoromanica con il tetto a salienti, gli archetti rampanti e il finto rosone: forse è stata voluta in ricordo della precedente chiesa medioevale (dedicata a San Silano) smantellata a fine 1600 per far posto all'attuale. E' curioso notare che nella lunetta della porta principale non è raffigurato San Silvano ma San Gaudenzio: forse già nel 1961 (anno della scultura) si auspicava il ritorno di Sozzago nella diocesi di Novara, rientro avvenuto nel 2016. The Baroque interior (to see the altar, the choir and the fresco of the "Triumph of San Silvano" on the presbyter) contrasts with the simple exterior, where you can admire the neo-Romanesque facade with the main roof, the arches rampant and the fake rose: perhaps it was intended to commemorate the former medieval church (dedicated to Saint Silano) dismantled at the end of 1600 to make way for the present. And 'interesting to note that in the lunette of the main door is not shown but Silvano San San Gaudenzio, perhaps already in 1961 (the year of the sculpture) it was hoped the return of Sozzago in the diocese of Novara, return took place in 2016.
