La chiesa sorge nel luogo dove i Longobardi edificarono una fortificazione, distrutta verso la fine del Duecento, ed è intitolata al santo patrono di questo popolo e patrono della città. È sede prepositurale dal 1924. La prima ricostruzione della chiesa in forma basilicare, a navata unica con tre absidi semicircolari e tetto a capriate, risale alla fine del Duecento o all'inizio del Trecento. La reliquia più importante presente all'interno della chiesa prepositurale è il corpo intero del martire romano san Felice. The church stands in the place where the Lombards built a fortification, which was destroyed towards the end of the thirteenth century, and is dedicated to the patron saint of this people and patron saint of the city. It has been the provost's seat since 1924. The first reconstruction of the church in basilic form, with a single nave with three semicircular apses and a trussed roof, dates back to the end of the thirteenth century or the beginning of the fourteenth century. The most important relic present inside the provost church is the entire body of the Roman martyr San Felice.
