Tale posizione riuscì a proteggerla dalle invasioni saracene che invece infierirono sulla chiesa di San Pancrazio martire. La chiesa, a seguito di un netto rifacimento nel XII secolo, presenta una struttura a tre navate divise da due file di grosse colonne, sulle quali poggiano archi a tutto sesto decorati con stucchi terminanti in absidi coperte.
