★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La chiesa di San Giacomo fu probabilmente costruita all’inizio del XIII secolo in prossimità della cinta muraria. La prima documentazione ad essa relativa risale infatti al 1298.
Verso la metà del XVI secolo, sullo scorcio delle Guerre d’Italia, l’edificio subì la distruzione totale, per risorgere qualche tempo dopo nelle forme architettoniche attuali.
La chiesa conobbe il suo periodo di maggior splendore artistico nella seconda metà del XVIII secolo, quando fu realizzata la bella facciata in stile barocco, la raffinata decorazione sulle tonalità del verde e rosa, e la pregevole Decapitazione di San Giacomo eseguita nel 1777 da Giuseppe Torricelli da Lugano.
Anche a causa di alcuni maldestri interventi conservativi effettuati tra ‘800 e ‘900, la chiesa rischiò il crollo negli anni Ottanta del secolo scorso.
I recenti restauri promossi dall’Associazione Culturale San Giacomo le hanno restituito la sua luminosa eleganza.
 The church of San Giacomo was probably built at the beginning of the 13th century near the walls. The first related documentation dates back to 1298.
Towards the middle of the sixteenth century, at the end of the Italian Wars, the building suffered total destruction, to rise again some time later in the current architectural forms.
The church experienced its period of greatest artistic splendor in the second half of the eighteenth century, when the beautiful façade was built in the Baroque style, the refined decoration in shades of green and pink, and the valuable Beheading of St. James executed in 1777 by Giuseppe Torricelli from Lugano.
Also due to some clumsy conservation interventions carried out between 800 and 1900, the church risked collapse in the 1980s.
The recent restorations promoted by the San Giacomo Cultural Association have given it back its luminous elegance.
