It is a beautiful theater, because it is a deconsecrated church, and classical music concerts are held #igerspisa #tuscany #photography #share #photographers #photo #color # ph.albertomoni #teatrosanfrediano #teatropisa Remembered as already existing in 1061, the original church was also dedicated to St. Martin of Tours, and had annexed a hospital for the reception of pilgrims and the poor; from 1076 to 1561 it was ruled by the Camaldolese monks who built the contiguous monastery, which was replaced by the knights of Santo Stefano and then, from 1594, regular clerics of San Paolo who remained there until 1783. [2] In 1589, an important renovation was carried out both on the outside (with the affixing of the coat of arms of the Order of St. Stephen, Pope and Martyr on the façade), and on the inside; in 1675, following a fire, the vault of the central nave and the apse were rebuilt in Baroque style. In 1784 the church became the seat of a parish entrusted to the secular clergy, which incorporated the territory of those of the Madonna dei Galletti and of the Saints Felice and Regolo. [3] In the twentieth century the church underwent two important restorations: the first, in 1921, involved the rearrangement of the side chapels; the second, completed in 1964, was aimed at restoring the original Romanesque forms and ended with the rededication by the archbishop of Pisa Ugo Camozzo which took place on February 9 of the same year. In 2001-3 there was an internal and external conservative restoration designed by Alessandro Baldassarri, [4] who in 2006-8 oversaw the construction of the present presbyteral area.
