★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Si tratta di un edificio con una storia molto travagliata....
La sua origine risale probabilmente attorno al milletrecento, quando faceva parte di un importante complesso religioso, che comprendeva anche la Basilica di San Lorenzo e del battistero di San Giovanni Battista.
Fu sede di sepoltura della nobile famiglia Maletta ( di cui conservano l'antico simbolo araldico in marmo,visibile sul lato del campanile), casato mortarese, particolarmente importante nel XV secolo ( soprattutto nel periodo sforzesco), quando divennero persino conti.
Con gli anni, l'edificio perse importanza, a scapito della vicina Basilica di San Lorenzo.
Nel secondo dopoguerra ( anni '50) venne sconsacrata a seguito di un furto sacrilego, opera di un gruppo satanista, e venne trasformata in magazzino.
Purtroppo, gli episodi blasfemi, continuarono a verificarsi negli anni '60 e '70, con scritte inneggianti al diavolo e presunte messe nere.
E' stata in parte restaurata nel 2010, scoprendo durante i lavori interessanti reperti storici.
Attualmente non è aperta al pubblico.
 This is a building with a very troubled history ....
Its origin probably dates back to around the thirteenth century, when it was part of an important religious complex, which also included the Basilica of San Lorenzo and the baptistery of San Giovanni Battista.
It was the burial site of the noble Maletta family (of which they retain the ancient heraldic symbol in marble, visible on the side of the bell tower), a Mortarese family, particularly important in the 15th century (especially in the Sforza period), when they even became counts.
Over the years, the building lost importance, to the detriment of the nearby Basilica of San Lorenzo.
After World War II (1950s) it was deconsecrated following a sacrilegious theft, the work of a Satanist group, and was transformed into a warehouse.
Unfortunately, the blasphemous episodes continued to occur in the 60s and 70s, with writings praising the devil and alleged black masses.
It was partially restored in 2010, discovering interesting historical artifacts during the works.
It is currently not open to the public.
