MAXIMUM EXAMPLE OF GOTHIC REVIVAL OF THE CITY The construction of the church, carried out by the engineers Francesco Orefice and Domenico Salierno, began in 1893 and in 1900 the consecration took place. religious awakening that characterized the city during the nineteenth century thanks to the work of reference figures that would have been subsequently canonized: Father Ludovico, Sister Giulia Salzano and Sister Maria Cristina Brando. Precisely to the latter saint (whose remains are preserved here mortali), with the support of the canon Domenico Maglione, we owe the construction of the building with the convent annexed. The neo-Gothic style blends perfectly with the renovated religious sentiment of that period. The imposing facade, which with i buttresses recalls similar reinterpretations of the Tuscan context (such as the troubled project of the late nineteenth-century facade of the Cathedral of Florence), is entirely made of exposed stone, representing admirably the tufaceous soul of the city. Even the interiors, from vaults to cruise with starry sky of the central nave at the women's gallery runs along the two aisles, as well as the decorative elements refer to the Tuscan-Umbrian Gothic style. On the main altar you can see the bronze sculptures of the 12 apostles while the marble frontal is embellished with various embossed bronze figures, among which stands out, in the center, that of the lamb. Finally, the multi-colored windows create suggestive chromatic effects, which contribute to giving the place an aura of mystical spirituality.
