L'ambiente interno è connotato da un'architettura semplice e lineare, mentre sugli altari laterali si possono ammirare gli eccessi tipici del barocco. In questo edificio, come del resto in molti altri del territorio, il marmo non è presente solo nelle strutture architettoniche, ma spesso incorona gli altari e prende il posto delle tele dipinte: in questi casi, nello sforzo di trarre il massimo di pittoricità da un materiale monocromo, gli artisti si sono sbizzarriti in invenzioni plastiche ed espressive di grande impatto estetico. Da visitare, con accesso a destra della navata, il sepolcreto Cybo-Malaspina e l'aula battesimale. A sinistra si accede agli ambienti collegiali quali la biblioteca seminariale, e i chiostri di respiro rinascimentale. L'interno, ampio e di grande respiro, è ad un'unica navata, con l'accesso diretto alla cappella Ducale e al battistero. L'interno è molto interessante, imponente, da l'idea di grandezza; ben presente l'utilizzo del marmo, materia prima che ovviamente in questa zona non manca. Culmine prospettico di Via Dante Alighieri che la collega alla Piazza degli Aranci, ha un impianto palesemente neoclassico, con una facciata tripartitica caratterizzata dalla sovrapposizione di loggiati a tutto sesto, culminante, ovviamente (e banalmente) in un timpano. Poche le indicazioni, evidentemente il turista non è preso in grande considerazione qui a Massa (purtroppo). Raccapricciante trovare lapidi celebrative del fascismo ancora presenti nell'atrio della chiesa, davvero indecoroso! Just worth a quick visit! Creepy to find commemorative plaques of Fascism still present in the church atrium, truly indecent!
