A faire
Nice place but quite small and the abundant molds hamper the visit a little. Guided tour for 5 € no tour alone. The visits will be in Italian depending on the composition of your group but the guide will give you some explanations in English. It takes 30 to 45min. To do

The catacomb of Porta d’Ossuna is the largest early Christian underground cemetery in Palermo. The site is located in the natural depression of the Papireto north-west of the city. The complex was discovered in 1739 during the works for the construction of the Cappuccinelle convent and explored by the Prince of Torremuzza. During the Second World War the catacombs were used as a shelter for the population to take refuge from bombing.

I am always moved when I find myself in a building (or catacomb, here) built centuries ago - and this dates back to about 1,600 years ago! We had an excellent guide (speaking italian), part of the "discover the city" few weeks in October. This is definitely a good time to visit: several monuments, churches and historical buildings normally closed are open and very competent volunteers give excellent explanations in guided tours lasting from ~20 to ~50'.
