Solo il parco circostante è fruibile. Beautiful from the outside. Always closed. Private. Not open for years except for special days and sipped over the years. Only the surrounding park is accessible.
V	Virginio Rossetti on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Sicuramente molto interessante ma non visitabile...peccato che x le solite diatribe all'italiana tra i proprietari ed il comune non si raggiunga un punto d'incontro x la riqualificazione e la manutenzione del castello e di conseguenza sembra, almeno dall'esterno, abbandonato a sé stesso. Bravi...complimenti! Certainly very interesting but not open to visitors ... it is a pity that the usual Italian diatribes between the owners and the municipality do not reach a meeting point for the redevelopment and maintenance of the castle and consequently it seems, at least from the outside, left to itself. Well done ... congratulations!

Io ho avuto la fortuna di vederlo alcuni anni fa in occasione della giornata del Fai e tanti anni fa quando era ancora del comune. Spero ritorni presto libero e visitabile per tutti. An enchanted place full of history and legend, it should not be closed to the public. I was lucky enough to see it a few years ago on the occasion of the FAI day and many years ago when it was still in the municipality. I hope it will be back soon free and open for everyone.

Considerata l'importanza strategica del territorio di Oria si deve presumere l'esistenza di un primo nucleo fortificato già in età altomedievale. In seguito (XI secolo), vi dovette essere una qualche forma di difesa/controllo dell'abitato e del territorio effettuato dai normanni che infeudarono la città. Probabilmente a tale primo nucleo del castello oritano è riferibile il torrione di forma quadrata, inglobato poi in parte in strutture di epoche successive. Numerose modifiche subì il maniero in età federiciana (1225-1233), al punto che generalmente viene denominato "castello svevo"; alcune fonti locali vogliono che lo stesso "Stupor mundi" edificò il castello, in realtà è più realistico pensare che Federico II lo ampliò e lo modificò secondo nuove esigenze di residenza: sappiamo infatti che in occasione del suo matrimonio con Iolanda di Brienne il castello ospitò numerosi ospiti d'onore. Altre importanti modifiche furono effettuate nel periodo angioino a cui vanno riferite le torri cilindriche dette "del Salto" e del "Cavaliere". L'originario mastio normanno-svevo fu pesantemente riadattato, come d'altronde tutta la struttura, anche nel corso del XV-XVI secolo adattandolo alle nuove esigenze difensive, nate con l'adozione delle armi da fuoco, e dotandolo quindi di numerose cannoniere in parte ancora oggi visibili. The Castle of Oria, National Monument. Considering the strategic importance of the territory of Oria, the existence of a first fortified nucleus already in the early Middle Ages must be assumed. Later (11th century), there must have been some form of defense / control of the town and of the territory carried out by the Normans who gave the city a fief. The square-shaped tower, which was then partly incorporated into structures from later periods, probably refers to this first nucleus of the Oritan castle. Lo si può guardare girando intorno, dove troverete sei giardini niente male, e anche la vista sula paese è da vedere. The castle is majestic and very beautiful from the outside, too bad it can't be visited! You can look around it, where you will find six pretty gardens, and the view over the village is also worth seeing.

M	Martin Boehm on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A castle with high historic value but allegedly closed due to disputes of the owners with municipality, as I understood during an excellent exhibition of medieval weapons in the church San Giovanni Battista close to the castle. A good impression of the castle structure can be gained nevertheless when walking through Parco Montalbano.
