State solo attenti perché non ci sono accorgimenti per evitare che vi arrivi qualche pietra in testa! Only example in Sicily of circular castle! Una volta raggiunto il castello, ( o meglio il torrione) c'è da fare una scalata attraverso le rocce per raggiungere la cima della struttura. Tengo presente che c'è anche un fosso pericoloso sempre sulla cima. Luogo suggestivo, unico e ricco di atmosfera. Vorrei fosse mantenuto meglio. Nonostante lo stato di totale abbandono però è una costruzione estremamente affascinante. Unica nel suo genere. La parte visibile è il torrione principale al cui interno è realizzata una torre più piccola per la raccolta delle acque piovane. Gli architravi ricurvi sono bellissimi ed eleganti. L'accesso al castello non è semplicissimo: la strada provinciale da percorrere in auto è parecchio dissestata. In alcuni tratti completamente ricoperta da terra e pietre, in altri addirittura crollata. Giunti in prossimità del castello, bisogna abbandonare l'auto e affrontare una piccola scalata tra le rocce in modo da raggiungere l'altura su è costruito il castello. Il panorama è mozzafiato e ripaga della fatica. The Castello di Mongialino is actually an unsafe ruin with few parts left standing. Lungo la strada che conduce al castello si possono trovare diversi tipi dì verdure selvatiche : Borragine, senape dolci e piccanti, cardi spinosi, Bietole selvatiche, finocchio selvatico. Si trovano inoltre nel mese dì dicembre sporadici ma profumatissimi narcisi . M	Massimo Calcagno on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Il Castello di Mongialino, purtroppo abbandonato e in rovina, rimane in piedi una parte del del mastio circolare e la cinta muraria, e non sono più visibili la porta d'ingresso e il ponte di cui parlava l'Abate Vito Amico nel 1757. Del Mastio circolare oggi è solo visibile la prima elevazione e pochi ruderi della seconda. Il torrione semicircolare, che non ha simili in Sicilia, lascia stupito il visitatore per la sua maestosità. Entrando nell’ambiente “anulare” formato dalle due strutture concentriche, è possibile osservare alcune saiettiere strombate verso l’interno e l’ingresso di una particolare cisterna cilindrica, posta proprio al centro del mastio, che raccoglieva un tempo le acque piovane provenienti dalla copertura. Dal castello si gode la vista di un paesaggio collinare molto suggestivo, con l'alternarsi di ombre e luci, i campi coltivati alternati ai campi brulli, specchi d'acqua quasi a contemplare un quadro di William Turner. Conviene avere molta prudenza nel visitare questa struttura, infatti i resti del castello sono pericolanti, e non è difficile assistere a dei crolli. La stabilità delle volte è molto precaria, e realmente potrebbe cedere da un momento all'altro. The stability of the vaults is very precarious, and it could really give way at any moment.
