★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Luogo molto suggestivo, nonostante lo stato di rudere. Peccato per l'abbandono. Molto bello il panorama e la vista sulla antica strada in pietra che da Galeata portava in Toscana. Del castello abbiamo notizie fin dal XII sec. Di esso dà una interessante descrizione il Cardinal Anglico (1371), dicendolo fortissimo e, assieme alla torre della Rovere, ad un tiro di balestra, posto a guardia del passaggio tra Romagna e Toscana. Appartenne ai conti Guidi, di quel ramo che fu poi detto di Corniolo, poi ai domini fiorentini. Corniolo era il suo antico nome, che poi passò all'attuale borgo, quando a partire dal XV secolo perse di importanza e fu pian piano abbandonato.
Very suggestive place, despite the state of ruin. Too bad for the abandonment. The panorama and the view of the ancient stone road that led from Galeata to Tuscany are very beautiful. We have news of the castle since the twelfth century. Cardinal Anglico (1371) gives an interesting description of it, saying it very strong and, together with the Torre della Rovere, a crossbow shot, placed to guard the passage between Romagna and Tuscany. It belonged to the Guidi counts, of that branch which was later called Corniolo, then to the Florentine dominions. Corniolo was its ancient name, which then passed to the current village, when starting from the fifteenth century it lost its importance and was gradually abandoned.
