Era la sede di un importante feudo, quello dei Signori di Baratonia, che controllavano quella zona del Piemonte.
Intorno, esisteva anche un villaggio di cui resta, più in basso, solamente l'antica chiesa di S.Giuliano.
Il castello venne distrutto più volte, dai Savoia, dalle truppe spagnole ma il colpo definitivo fu un'epidemia di peste, che falcidio' gli abitanti del villaggio.
Abbandonato da secoli, ne restano solo i suoi ruderi nel bosco.

It was the seat of an important feud, that of the Lords of Baratonia, who controlled that area of Piedmont.
Around, there was also a village of which only the ancient church of San Giuliano remains, further down.
The castle was destroyed several times, by the Savoy, by the Spanish troops but the final blow was an epidemic of plague, which decimated the inhabitants of the village.
Abandoned for centuries, only its ruins remain in the woods.
