m	manuela graziadei on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Castello incantato sotto la roccia e con una vista magica sulla valle l'unico problema è che il sentiero nella prima parte è normale (non accessibile a tutti) e poi la seconda parte di sentiero praticamente nn c'è più ma andando in su verso la montagna ci arrivi. Però purtroppo credo che questo castello sia privato ma ormai abbandonato da tanti tanti anni infatti é in uno stato instabile e bisogna far attenzione a rocce pericolanti. Enchanted castle under the rock and with a magical view of the valley the only problem is that the path in the first part is normal (not accessible to everyone) and then the second part of the path is practically no longer there but going up towards the mountain you get there. But unfortunately I believe that this castle is private but now abandoned for many many years in fact it is in an unstable state and one must be careful of dangerous rocks.

Chiunque è diffidato dall' accedervi, primo perché commetterebbe una violazione, secondo perché c'è pericolo di caduta massi e i proprietari si ritengono non responsabili di danni causati a persone che abusivamente vi si recano. ???WARNING! The castle and consequently the road and the wood to access it are privately owned. Anyone is warned against accessing it, first because it would commit a violation, second because there is a danger of falling rocks and the owners do not consider themselves responsible for damage caused to people who illegally go there.

Wenn man den richtigen Weg gefunden hat ist man innerhalb 15 bis 20 min auf der Burg A very nice place. Unfortunately very difficult to reach and also a little dangerous because of the rockfall! If you have found the right way you are within 15 to 20 minutes at the castle

Un po difficile da raggiungere ma la fatica è ripagata da un bel panorama sulla piana Rotaliana. A charming and fascinating site. The castle is carved into the rock. A bit difficult to reach but the effort is rewarded by a beautiful view over the Rotaliana plain.

Le rovine si raggiungevano attraverso un sentiero attualmente chiuso perché non più manutenuto e per il rischio di caduta massi data la forte pendenza ed esposizione. Il castello è davvero suggestivo per la sua posizione straordinaria all'interno di una cavità naturale nel massiccio montuoso che da Nord domina l'abitato di Mezzocorona. La leggenda locale racconta che nella grotta in tempi antichi vivesse il terribile basilisco ucciso dal conte Ugo Firmian che salvò così gli abitanti della piana Rotaliana. All'interno del castello è ospitata una chiesetta dedicata a San Gottardo santo patrono di Mezzocorona. The ancient San Gottardo castle dates back to at least the 12th century and is now in a state of disrepair. The ruins were reached via a path that is currently closed because it is no longer maintained and due to the risk of falling rocks due to the steep slope and exposure. The castle is truly impressive due to its extraordinary position within a natural cavity in the mountain massif that dominates the town of Mezzocorona from the north. Local legend tells that the terrible basilisk killed by Count Ugo Firmian lived in the cave in ancient times, thus saving the inhabitants of the Rotaliana plain. Inside the castle there is a small church dedicated to San Gottardo, patron saint of Mezzocorona.

In Val Gardena c'è quello di Wolkenstein, anche se molto più piccolo, c'è ne sono diversi in Svizzera, (Marmels è il più spettacolare..), Loch in Germania o Predjama ( l'unico integro...) in Slovenia. Il Castel S.Gottardo risale al XI secolo, quando era controllato dai conti di Appiano, che qui imprigionarono il vescovo di Trento. Come premio per la sua liberazione, venne concesso ai nobili Metz, che lo abitarono per quasi 3 secoli. Venne abbandonato dai nobili Firmian, che lo avevano ereditato, per trasferirsi più in valle. Il castello è legato a diverse leggende ( la più famosa è quella del basilisco, una sorta di drago...) e nei suoi paraggi sono state rinvenute orme di dinosauri. Si raggiunge con grande difficoltà ( il tracciato in gran parte non è riconoscibile e, nel finale è in forte pendenza) imboccando un sentiero che parte attorno al n.40 della via Cristani e sale verso la roccia. Il percorso è molto impegnativo, lo sconsiglio a chi non abituato almeno percorsi di trekking in montagna...non è una scampagnata.... Circa un anno fa, per metterlo in sicurezza da una frana, è stato necessario far esplodere una parte del muro di cinta e dei massi circostanti. Le mie foto sono precedenti a questo intervento. Speriamo che nel futuro sia reso più accessibile e visitabile. La sua storia e la sua fantastica posizione lo merita. It is one of the rare examples of a castle built in a cave. Castel S.Gottardo dates back to the 11th century, when it was controlled by the counts of Appiano, who imprisoned the bishop of Trento here. As a reward for his release, it was granted to the Metz nobles, who lived there for almost 3 centuries. It was abandoned by the Firmian nobles, who had inherited it, to move further into the valley. The castle is linked to several legends (the most famous is that of the basilisk, a kind of dragon ...) and dinosaur footprints have been found in its vicinity. It can be reached with great difficulty (the route is largely not recognizable and, in the end it is steeply sloping) by taking a path that starts around n.40 of via Cristani and climbs towards the rock. The route is very demanding, I do not recommend it for those who are not used to at least trekking routes in the mountains ... it is not a picnic .... About a year ago, to make it safe from a landslide, it was necessary to blow up a part of the boundary wall and the surrounding boulders. My photos are previous to this intervention. We hope that in the future it will be made more accessible and open to visitors. Its history and its fantastic location deserves it.

O	Orlando B00m on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ To find the way up you have to drive from the Via del Castello on to the via Giovanni Barone Cristani and stop shortly after at the house number 40. On the right BEHIND the gate you go up the trail. When you come to an Intersection go straight. Do not follow the yellow-red markings, they will lead you to a climbing route or smth. Then you should arrive shortly after. Bring good shoes it is very steep and slippery
