Nel 1865 fu eletto al Parlamento nazionale. In quel periodo maturò un progressivo allontanamento dalla Destra e aderì alla nascente Sinistra costituzionale auspicando la nascita di un grande partito nazionale progressista. Nel luglio del 1869 vinse le elezioni amministrative a Bologna e diventò sindaco a capo di una coalizione di forze che prese il nome di Partito degli azzurri.

Bus stop which takes its name from Camillo Casarini (Bologna, 8 August 1830 - Bologna, 21 April 1874) who was an Italian politician and patriot, who collaborated with Cavour.
In 1865 he was elected to the National Parliament. In that period he developed a progressive distancing from the Right and joined the nascent constitutional Left, hoping for the birth of a large progressive national party. In July 1869 he won the administrative elections in Bologna and became mayor at the head of a coalition of forces that took the name of the Blue Party.
