Casa della famiglia Besozzi di Castelbesozzo. Acquisita nel 1864 da Don Domenico, gentiluomo e patriota, divenne poi del figlio Celeste sindaco di Mombello e fondatore delle industrie cartarie ( Infrangibile, ancora esistente come cartiera Merati di Laveno). Così indicata una lapide sulla parete messa dal nipote Alessandro, cavaliere di Malta , nel 1960. Celeste Besozzi fece fortuna con l’invenzione della bomba a mano a strappo. Questa bomba a mano italiana era detta Besozzi dal nome del suo inventore, l'ingegner Celeste Besozzi titolare di un'industria grafica di Milano che stampava manuali d'istruzione per le bombe a mano SIPE italiane. La bomba a mano Besozzi fu una bomba a mano italiana prodotta dalle Industrie Besozzi ed impiegata dal Regio Esercito e dall'Armée de terre durante la prima guerra mondiale. L'arma nacque dagli studi sugli esplosivi del chimico Nob. Luigi Besozzi e dal lavoro del fratello ingegnere Nob. Celeste Besozzi. I due depositarono il brevetto della granata il 10 marzo 1915 e subito la Industrie Besozzi iniziarono la produzione per l'esercito francese. Con l'entrata in guerra del Regno d'Italia il 24 maggio dello stesso anno, tutta la produzione viene destinata alle esigenze del Regio Esercito, mentre la Francia ottiene la licenza di produzione. Arrivò ai reparti al fronte nel 1916, ma già nel 1917 la produzione venne interrotta e le scorte distribuite ad esaurimento a causa della scarsa affidabilità del sistema di accensione. BESOZZI. DIMORA: Milano e Mombello (Lago Maggiore). È una diramazione dell’antichissima famiglia milanese originaria da Besozzo, discendente da CORRADO, vivente nel 1258 e stabilitasi con ALESSANDRO tra il 1476 ed il 1479 a Mombello sul Lago Maggiore, ove possedeva beni che tutt’ora conserva. Fu riconosciuta nel titolo di «nobile» mf. con decreto 29 marzo 1925 in testa di CELESTE, e 6 maggio 1926 in testa di PIETRO e di UGO. Inoltre ai citati Pietro ed Ugo, discendenti da Giacomo Filippo, per concessione di «motu proprio» 27 sett. 1928 fu riconosciuto il titolo di Conte con trasmissione (mpr.). House of the Besozzi family of Castelbesozzo. Acquired in 1864 by Don Domenico, a gentleman and patriot, it later became Mayor of Mombello and founder of the paper industries by his son Celeste (Unbreakable, still existing as Merati di Laveno paper mill). Thus indicated a plaque on the wall placed by his nephew Alessandro, a knight of Malta, in 1960. Celeste Besozzi made his fortune with the invention of the hand grenade. This Italian hand grenade was called Besozzi from the name of its inventor, the engineer Celeste Besozzi, owner of a graphic industry in Milan that printed instruction manuals for Italian SIPE hand grenades. The Besozzi hand grenade was an Italian hand grenade produced by Industrie Besozzi and used by the Royal Army and the Armée de Terre during the First World War. The weapon was born from the explosives studies of the chemist Nob. Luigi Besozzi and the work of his brother engineer Nob. Celeste Besozzi. The two filed the patent for the grenade on 10 March 1915 and Industrie Besozzi immediately began production for the French army. With the entry into the war of the Kingdom of Italy on 24 May of the same year, all production was destined for the needs of the Royal Army, while France obtained the production license. It arrived at the front departments in 1916, but already in 1917 the production was stopped and the stocks distributed to exhaustion due to the poor reliability of the ignition system. BESOZZI.
