Nell'area degli ex-Cantieri del Mediterraneo sorgeva originariamente un insediamento ecclesiastico delle “Figlie di N.S. della Misericordia”.
Nel 1916 venne costruito il cantiere per opera dell’Ing. Arturo Pierrotet con i capitali della società Larvarello.
Durante il Fascismo, con il nome “Cantiere Federale” assunse un particolare valore strategico per la costruzione di materiale bellico.
Dal 1931 al 1942 il Cantiere è rimasto inattivo. La società Lavarello cessò l’attività.
Nel 1942, con il nome di “Cantieri del Mediterraneo”, il cantiere passa di mano e viene acquistato dalla famiglia Messina che riprende l’attività fino al 1960.
Nel 1960 viene acquistato dall’olandese Van Ommeren con il nome di “Cantieri Navali di Pietra Ligure”.
Ceduto al Gruppo Silvio Rebolino, viene rinominato “Nuovi Cantieri Liguri”.
Subendo, dal 1978 NCL sotto la gestione GEPI, una perditadi 1 miliardo e mezzo l’anno, nel 1990 i “Nuovi Cantieri Liguri” falliscono.
A seguire l'attività viene acquisita dalla Pennmarric e dal Gruppo Rodriquez.
Ad oggi sono in fase di smantellamento.
Ho riportato per il sito la denominazione “Cantieri del Mediterraneo” in quanto la scritta ancora si intravvede sulle vecchie pareti degli stabili e su un grosso portone metallico che consentiva l'accesso ferroviario ai cantieri stessi, direttamente dalla stazione di Pietra Ligure.

An ecclesiastical settlement of the "Daughters of N.S. of Mercy ".
In 1916 the construction site was built by Eng. Arturo Pierrotet with the capital of the Larvarello company.
During Fascism, with the name "Federal Shipyard" it assumed a particular strategic value for the construction of war material.
From 1931 to 1942 the shipyard remained inactive. The Lavarello company went out of business.
In 1942, with the name of "Cantieri del Mediterraneo", the shipyard changed hands and was purchased by the Messina family which resumed business until 1960.
In 1960 it was purchased by the Dutchman Van Ommeren with the name "Cantieri Navali di Pietra Ligure".
Transferred to the Silvio Rebolino Group, it is renamed "Nuovi Cantieri Liguri".
Undergoing, since 1978 NCL under the GEPI management, a loss of 1 billion and a half a year, in 1990 the "New Ligurian Shipyards" fail.
Following the activity is acquired by Pennmarric and the Rodriquez Group.
To date they are being dismantled.
For the site I have mentioned the name "Cantieri del Mediterraneo" as the writing can still be seen on the old walls of the buildings and on a large metal door that allowed rail access to the construction sites themselves, directly from the station of Pietra Ligure.
