★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Quando hai un’esperienza negativa con un medico estremamente rinomato come il dottor. Basciano, un paio di domande te le fai. “Sono stata io che ho sbagliato? Avrei dovuto usare un altro approccio? Magari non intendeva dire quello che ha detto, magari ho capito male io…”. E via di scuse perché com’e’ possibile la mia esperienza valga tanto quanto la popolarità di questo medico?
E invece vale, eccome se vale! Ed e’ stata la più’ orribile esperienza che io abbia mai avuto con un ginecologo, in Italia e all’estero.
Durante una telefonata, il dottore mi ha detto che e’ ovvio che le donne di una certa eta’ soffrano nel fare un pap-test perché’ sono poco lubrificate e hanno i muscoli contratti. Quando ho gentilmente cercato di spiegargli che si potrebbe ovviare alla cosa dando tempo alla paziente di rilassarsi e non provare dolore, la sua risposta perentoria e’ che no, lui la procedura la deve fare cosi’ come la fa a tutte le sue pazienti, che e’ solo tensione fisica e che rilassare la mente non rilasserebbe i muscoli contratti. La paziente deve sopportare quello che le viene fatto perche’ e’ questione di minuti.
E’ dovere di un medico adattarsi al paziente, alleviare il loro dolore fisico e mentale, e non causarne di piu’. Mi e’ bastata questa telefonata per decidere che da questo ginecologo, di persona, non ci andrò mai.
When you have a negative experience with an extremely renowned doctor such as Dr. Basciano, you ask yourself a couple of questions. “Was it me who was wrong? Should I have used another approach? Maybe he didn't mean what he said, maybe I misunderstood… ". And an apology because how is it possible that my experience is worth as much as the popularity of this doctor?
And instead it is valid, and how if it is valid! And it was the most horrible experience I have ever had with a gynecologist, in Italy and abroad.
During a phone call, the doctor told me that it is obvious that women of a certain age suffer from having a pap smear because they are poorly lubricated and have contracted muscles. When I kindly tried to explain to him that this could be remedied by giving the patient time to relax and not feel pain, his peremptory answer is that no, he has to do the procedure as he does to all his patients, that it is just physical tension and that relaxing the mind would not relax the contracted muscles. The patient has to endure what is done to her because it is a matter of minutes.
It is a doctor's duty to adapt to the patient, relieve their physical and mental pain, and not cause more of it. This phone call was enough for me to decide that I will never go to this gynecologist in person.
