P	Pippo Calbo on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Con una bella piazzetta sul prospetto di gradevolissimo aspetto la ex chiesa adibita ad auditorium fu eretta dal Cavalieri tra il 1765 ed il 1773.Rimane tutt'oggi forse la maggior espressione del barocco centese.Le foto da me postate risalgono all'8 Maggio 2011 durante un comizio di Vendola allora segretario del partito "Sinistra Ecologia e Libertà". With a beautiful little square on the very pleasant aspect, the former church used as an auditorium was built by the Knights between 1765 and 1773. It still remains perhaps the greatest expression of the Cento baroque. The photos I posted date back to 8 May 2011 during a rally in Vendola, then secretary of the "Sinistra Ecologia e Libertà" party.

Dopo le lesioni alla Pinacoteca di Cento, causate dal terremoto del 2012, questo auditorium svolge una funzione vicariante, per le esposizioni. In questo periodo sono esposti in mostra i dipinti del Guercino che bene risaltano nella cornice dell'auditorium. Peccato che il percorso di osservazione delle opere non aiuti a seguire il percorso dell'evoluzione pittorica dell'artista. Un ricordo che si perde oramai nel tempo: oltre sessanta anni fa, nel secondo dopoguerra, questa ex chiesa era adibita a garage-parcheggio per cicli e motocicli. The former church of San. La costruzione della chiesa, su disegno dell’architetto Pietro Alberto Cavalieri, risale al 1765 e si protrasse fino al 1785, anche a causa dell’interruzione conseguente alla soppressione dell’ordine dei Gesuiti (1773). Nel 1860, su disegno di Luigi Bertuzzi, fu costruito il campanile. L’interno della chiesa, completamente bianco, presenta soluzioni compositive che, sposandosi alle modulazioni della luce, creano effetti scenografici di grande suggestione ed esaltano gli elementi architettonici e scultorei La chiesa di San Lorenzo, oggi sconsacrata, è dal 1870 di proprietà del Patrimonio degli Studi. Gli eventi sismici del 2012 resero inagibili le chiese centesi e la Pinacoteca Civica “Il Guercino”, tanto che tutte le opere d’arte furono evacuate. Nel 2015 con l’intento di rendere fruibili i capolavori realizzati dal Guercino e dalla sua bottega la chiesa diventò la sede della Pinacoteca San Lorenzo. L'esposizione è a rotazione in quanto i dipinti vengono esposti anche in altre sedi, anche all'estero. A Novembre 2019 verrà allestita una grande, nuova mostra.
