★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Avrei voluto dare 5 stelle, in quanto il sito archeologico è in perfetto stato di conservazione ma una volta arrivati lì il sito era chiuso, di venerdì 27 agosto ore 10,30 del mattino.
Nessun cartello che dia un minimo di spiegazione su giorni e orari.
Ho telefonato all'ufficio turistico dell'Aquila ma il telefono ha squillato invano.
Ora capisco perché l'ingresso è gratuito è sempre chiuso.
 I would have liked to give 5 stars, as the archaeological site is in perfect condition but once we got there the site was closed, on Friday 27 August at 10.30 am.
No sign giving a minimum of explanation on days and times.
I phoned the L'Aquila tourist office but the phone rang in vain.
Now I understand why the entrance is free and always closed.

Worth a visit on one side is the Roman section less than 2 km from the amphitheater, all free of charge you just need to sign the register

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Più nascosto rispetto all'area archeologica del teatro quella dell'anfiteatro è un piccolo gioiello nascosto, costruito nel momento di maggior espansione della città romana, nell' I Sec. D.C., successivo alla costrizione del teatro.
La cavea si eleva sulla via Amiternina tra il colle San Marco e il fiume Aterno, con diametri di 68 e 53 metri, le arcate sono 48 e reggevano le gradinate, si stima che la capienza complessiva fosse di 6.000 persone, molto grande per i tempi. Dell'anfiteatro è oggi ancora visibile l'intero corridoio esterno con il colonnato a mattoncini e la struttura della cavea con muratura a sacco e rivestimento in laterizio.
Restaurato negli anni 90 è ora disponibile gratuitamente al pubblico.

The entire external corridor with the brick colonnade and the cavea structure with sack masonry and brick cladding is still visible today.
Restored in the 90s, it is now freely available to the public.
