A gallery of great wealth in the shadow of the Academia; a gentleman of a great class with a simple and friendly welcome in the midst of somewhat impressive works; a place we like to come back to when passing through Venice.

It is impossible, passing through the Academy, not to notice this splendid gallery, managed with great professionalism by the Scarpa family. Once there was only the father, today also the children., Remarkable works of art.

Directed to Santa Maria della Salute to admire "my" Luca Giordano (a painter that I particularly love as a great exponent of the Neapolitan Baroque from which I am inspired in my works, albeit modest), I come across an amazing masterpiece. I turn to my wife, a patient "victim" of my long visits to churches and museums, and I say to her: "God, how beautiful he is, he looks like a Tintoretto". I need to know more and then I press the intercom button. With extreme discretion and due lightness (I felt like an elephant entering a crystal cabinet) I step forward and ask the owner, who introduced himself as Mr. Jacopo Scarpa, whose hand is so splendid. "It's from Jacopo", he replies! I was right, Jacopo Tintoretto, complete with abundant documentation that ascertains paternity. A chat, a glimpse at the Beltraffio, at Tiepolo and at a wonderful painting bearing a "San Girolamo in penitenza" of which I do not remember the author. Mr. Scarpa, an impeccable professional in his competence, affable and with a kind manner, also knows Neapolitan painting, knows my land (the Amalfi Coast) and where, for work, he stayed for a short period. Finally, an exchange of business cards with the promise to send him photos of one of my works that have just been completed, the 12 APOSTLES of Christ and which I have to market. Great meeting in a venue where time stops for a few minutes and you can breathe the ideal atmosphere for those who, like myself, want to compete with the greats of the past. The gallery is somewhat imtimidating, filled with what look to be paintings from the 1500 to the late-1800's, and it was, but it also had a distinctive collection of silver frames and gifts, as well as wood sculptures created by the owner. We bought two beautiful frames, and afterwards he gave us a tour of some of their offerings. Definitely not a tourist trap.
