Palazzo stupendo. L'ho visitato per la mostra Our Place in Space che ho trovato un po' misera vista l'immensità dell'argomento

Sino al 25 novembre 2018, oltre a vedere i magnifici interni ed esterni di Palazzo Franchetti, impossibile non vedere la strabiliante mostra MEMPHIS - Plastic Field allestita in occasione della 16a Biennale di Architettura. This significant Academic Palace is located on Campo Santo Stefano near the beautiful Accademia Bridge. The Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti ( Institute Veneto of Sciences, Letters and Arts ) stems from the Reale Istituto Nazionale, created by Napoleon for the Kingdom of Italy in 1810. The current name was given in 1838 by Ferdinand I, Emperor of Austria, when Venetia was under Austrian Government. In 1866, after the annexation of Venetia to Kingdom of Italy, the Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti was recognized as one of the most prestigious Italian Academies. Since 1838, the activity of Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti run uninterruptedly till now days. The first seat of the Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti was Palazzo Ducale then it transferred, in 1893, to Palazzo Loredan. The Institute accounts for 290 fellows, divided in two Classes (Class of Sciences and Class of Humanities), each Class is made of fellows (soci effettivi), corresponding fellows (soci corrispondenti), foreign fellows (soci stranieri) and honorary fellows (soci onorari). Fellows are formally appointed by the Ministry of Cultural Affaires after being elected by the Assembly of the fellows (soci effettivi). Since its origins, the Institute has been providing numerous awards and scholarships in order to encourage research on both historical and scientific topics. The Institute publishes the magazine «Atti», the periodical «Memorie» which collects monographic works, and numerous series and number of volumes. The Institute owns a rich library (over 300,000 volumes) and several archives, including that of Luigi Luzzatti, Italian prime minister in 1911.

Admittedly, I have not been inside the Venice Institute of Science & Art as it had been taken over for a G8 summit, however, throwing caution to the wind, I thoroughly enjoyed the grounds, sneaking past a partially roped off area that led into the garden. This was spotted whilst on one of the canal buses and had been worth further investigation as I had spent the day fruitlessly trying to find somewhere to propose to my now wife. The setting couldn't have been more perfect and the outcome was a pleasing one.
