My son is in the fourth Gymnasium with enthusiasm, passion and is learning a multitude of notions through highly trained teachers with the addition of truly unique qualities, such as knowing how to put the focus of their work and pupils know how to make them even grow from the point personal and not just cultural ... and then a lot of availability, kindness, courtesy ... A welcoming environment, it seems to enter a perfect world, of other times ... I would like to thank everyone ... from the Headmaster, to Teachers, Secretarial Staff ... all ...

The building that houses the most prestigious high school in Como is the work of Simone Cantoni, author of the most famous and celebrated Villa Olmo (among other things, he also worked for the Palazzo Ducale in Genoa). The sober but very elegant building fits very well into the medieval center of the city, confirming that this was a land of great architects

The interior of the Liceo is beautiful, with this ancient convent kiosk. It is no coincidence that it is adjacent to the church of Santa Cecilia and was perhaps once part of the church. I think it's a high school with various functions, some sections of classic and other scientific, and I think it's also the only high school in Como

Located within the internal profile of the walled city, next to Porta Torre, the complex of buildings of the current Liceo-Ginnasio, dating back to around 1250, originally served as a monastery for the Augustinian nuns of Como. The construction of the adjacent church of S. Cecilia (1573) was instead later. Having become a Jesuit college between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries, it was finally used in 1773 for its current destination under the name of "Real Ginnasio" in the capital of the Larian area. Led by Alessandro Volta from 1774 to 1778, it was then elevated to high school in the Napoleonic era at the beginning of the nineteenth century, while keeping the presidency of the gymnasium separate from that of the high school, then unified in 1851. Entitled to its original regent starting from 1865, the complex it was the subject of important renovations, directed by the architect Simone Cantoni, a prominent personality in the Italian Neoclassical panorama. Among other things, the current appearance of the facade facing via Cesare Cantù is due to him, with Corinthian columns in marmum carystium extracted on the island of Euboea. Two full-length sculptures, allegories of Philosophy and Religion, placed in the central niches, overlook the passers-by with a solemn air, flanked by the busts of those illustrious fellow citizens who honored the city. Among them are remembered: Pliny the Younger and Pliny the Elder, Sant'Abbondio third bishop and patron saint of the city, the two Larian popes (Innocent XI and Clement XIII) and Paolo Giovio. The cloister, the Grand'Aula, the Aula Benzi (with its invaluable book heritage), the corridors, the current school library and presidency (once a physics classroom) - as well as all the other architectural elements - convey a strong link with the humanistic tradition, characterized by the love for knowledge and the development of critical thinking in young minds. For several generations the Liceo-Ginnasio Volta was the forge of the Como establishment and as a former student I like to think that it is still so today.
