★ ★ ★ ★ ★ L'abbazia di Santa Maria di Spanò fu fondata nel 1263 dal monaco Nicola di Troina e affidata ai monaci cistercensi del monastero di Novara di Sicilia.
Durante la sua esistenza, l'abbazia è stata più volte frequentata dai cavalieri templari.
Tuttavia,la vita del monastero fu breve,nel 1310 fu abbandonato e i monaci tornarono a Novara di Sicilia.
Oggi dell'Abbazia rimane solo la chiesa in discrete condizioni di conservazione, tuttavia l'interno non è visitabile perché nel frattempo il terreno su cui sorge è diventato proprietà privata, del complesso dove risiedevano i monaci, invece, non né rimane più traccia.
 The abbey of Santa Maria di Spanò was founded in 1263 by the monk Nicola di Troina and entrusted to the Cistercian monks of the monastery of Novara di Sicilia.
During its existence, the abbey has been frequented several times by the Knights Templar.
However, the life of the monastery was short, in 1310 it was abandoned and the monks returned to Novara di Sicilia.
Today the Abbey remains only the church in fair conditions of conservation, however the interior cannot be visited because in the meantime the land on which it stands has become private property, of the complex where the monks lived, however, neither remains nor trace.
