★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The history of the Dominio di Bagnoli dates back to the year 1000 with the foundation of a Benedictine monastery. Those hardworking monks are credited with the first, far-sighted land reclamation from which a centuries-old agricultural tradition began. In the year 1656 the family of the Widmann counts acquired the vast estate from the papal state and, in the same year, commissioned the Venetian architect Baldassare Longhena to build a large villa, which later became an ional monument. The building repeats in the architecture the motifs of the Venetian Rezzonico palace and is a magnificent testimony of the Baroque style. In the eighteenth century the residence became a meeting point for artists and nobles, as well as a privileged place for sumptuous parties and holidays. The celebrations also included entertaining theatrical performances with the participation of the comedian poet Carlo Goldoni, a guest of Count Ludovico Widmann several times. Since 1917, the Domain of Bagnoli owned by the Milanese Borletti family who has long been able to combine the entrepreneurial approach with respect for nature by choosing the most suitable methods for the enhancement and protection of this enchanting territory.
