La Torre, nonostante la sua rilevanza storica, è molto trascurata e invasa da sterpaglie. Occorre fare qualcosa! Non mandate in malora il passato, prendetevene cura e proteggetelo dalla scure del tempo!!! Comunque sia, il sito merita una visita, in particolare il bellissimo mosaico delle Terme! Archaeological site located in Marina d'Ascea in Via Isacia. The Tower, despite its historical relevance, is very neglected and invaded by brushwood. Something must be done! Don't mess up the past, take care of it and protect it from the dark of time !!! However, the site is worth a visit, especially the beautiful mosaic of the Baths!

Si trova a ridosso del teatro greco che è poco sottostante. La vista che si gode dalla torre è davvero mozzafiato e offre un panorama eccezionale e molto suggestivo. Le caratteristiche della torre di Velia, costituita da un alto torrione cilindrico su base tronco- conica, si ritrovano in altre fortificazioni sorte nello stesso periodo (quella di Castelnuovo Cilento, di Castelcivita, di Maddaloni e quella di Amalfi chiamata dello ziro). La torre di Velia fu costruita alla fine del secolo XIII, ai tempi della guerra dei vespri siciliani. Come è noto, con il moto dei vespri, scoppiano il 31 Marzo 1282, la Sicilia si ribellò agli Angioini e passò sotto il dominio di Pietro D’Aragona, provocando, così, una lunga e terribile guerra tra Siciliani - Aragonesi e gli Angioini di Napoli. Oggi la torre guarda imponente dall'alto il mare in lontananza di Velia e domina il paesaggio col suo maestoso aspetto. Di notte è ben visibile dal paese perché ben illuminata. Purtroppo, attualmente il secondo livello della torre è in ristrutturazione, quindi, si può accedere solo al primo livello ma, come potete vedere dalle foto, ne vale la pena. The archaeological park is wonderful, beyond the tower, which is a breathtaking panoramic point, there are many other peculiarities such as the Greek baths and the Porta Rosa that alone are worth the entrance ticket. Unfortunately, currently the second level of the tower is under renovation, therefore, you can only access the first level but, as you can see from the photos, it is worth it.

a	alex passmore on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Dominating the sky line above the ancient Greco-Roman town of Elea-Velia, this tower is a remnant of the fortification built centuries later by the Normans. It is a magnificent viewpoint and well worth visiting.
