★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La Torre Santa Cesarea è indicata nella cartografia e nei documenti antichi quasi sempre come “Torre Monte Saracino” o “Saraceno“. Non si conosce con esattezza l’anno della sua costruzione ma la troviamo citata nella cartografia del XVI secolo.
Come le altre torri a pianta circolare piccole concentrate nella costa alta e scoscesa a sud di Otranto, risultano essere tra le prime costruite, probabilmente in seguito all’eccidio del 1480 per l’urgenza di difendersi dalle minacce turche. Anche la loro piccola dimensione è giustificata da fattori di urgenze ed economici.
É circondata da fitta vegetazione boschiva costituita da piante ad alto e medio fusto di pini, lecci, olivastri ed un sottobosco con essenze tipiche della macchia mediterranea la cui piantumazione risale ai primi decenni del secolo passato. Un tempo, quando la collina era brulla, la torre svettava sul panorama della città ed era visibile da qualunque posto di osservazione a riprova della sua originaria destinazione di torre di avvistamento.
Recentemente ristrutturata, non visitabile.

The Torre Santa Cesarea is indicated in the cartography and in the ancient documents almost always as "Torre Monte Saracino" or "Saraceno". The exact year of its construction is not known but we find it mentioned in 16th century cartography.
Like the other small circular towers concentrated in the high and steep coast south of Otranto, they appear to be among the first to be built, probably following the massacre of 1480 due to the urgent need to defend themselves from Turkish threats. Their small size is also justified by urgent and economic factors.
It is surrounded by thick wooded vegetation consisting of tall and medium-sized trees of pines, holm oaks, olive trees and an undergrowth with typical essences of the Mediterranean scrub whose planting dates back to the first decades of the past century. Once, when the hill was barren, the tower stood out on the panorama of the city and was visible from any observation post as proof of its original use as a lookout tower.
Recently renovated, not open to visitors.
