M	Marco Rutigliano on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Basilica eretta inizialmente nel 313 d.c. nel posto in cui sorgeva la grande aula del Foro tiburtino nel momento che oramai era cessato il culto di Ercole Vincitore, ristrutturata nei secoli XI e XII in stile romanico-laziale su tre navate. Quella che vediamo oggi è il rifacimento in stile barocco del secolo XVII voluta dal cardinale Giulio Roma vescovo di Tivoli. Unico ricordo superstite del complesso romanico medioevale è il possente campanile che ancora si leva a fianco della Cattedrale. R	Roxy VR30 on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ La leggenda attribuisce la costruzione della basilica all'imperatore Costantino, ma le prove storiche a Leone III (795-816) che arricchì la cattedrale dedicata a San Lorenzo, con ingenti offerte. Comunque oggi, dietro la tribuna è possibile osservare l'abside della basilica del I secolo a.c. sulla quale venne costruita la chiesa altomedievale. Tra XI e il XII vennero aggiunti il campanile di 47 metri; l'unica edificazione che rimane dell'antica cattedrale romanica e le tre navate laterali. Fu nel 1600, che il vescovo di Tivoli, fece trasformare la chiesa in una sola navata, con 4 cappelle per lato, separate da colonne corinzie. La facciata fu realizzata nel 1650 con l'aggiunta del portico a tre fornici. Il soffitto è a botte e vi si individuano tre lunette, con 3 riquadri, rappresentanti La Religione, San Lorenzo e La Fede. Mentre sopra le finestre della navata sono raffigurati i 12 apostoli. La scultura in legno di cedro che si vede tra le foto, rappresenta la Deposizione del Cristo del 1220-1230. Il rimaneggiamento che ha subito in tempi non lontani ha restituito una struttura molto diversa dalla basilica medievale e anche da quella barocca che ne ha preso il posto (se la gente smettesse di copiare da internet....). Ma ciò nonostante il risultato è molto gradevole e vi troverete di fronte a un bellissimo Duomo, molto luminoso e molto frequentato e vissuto. Le decorazioni neoclassiche hanno dato nuovo lustro al tutto e una visita delle cappelle (sono custodite anche importanti effigi) sarà di sicuro gradimento. Nella stessa piazza l'antico lavatoio e la mensa ponderaria. Guardate le foto e i video che ho postato e le altre recensioni su Tivoli e su Roma che ho fatto e se sono stato utile cliccate su utile. Don't expect a church as old as its origins are. But nevertheless the result is very pleasant and you will find yourself in front of a beautiful cathedral, very bright and very popular and lived. The neoclassical decorations have given a new luster to everything and a visit to the chapels (important effigies are also kept) will certainly be appreciated.
