Nel 1872 il piccolo teatro della maschera, che fin dal Seicento si trovava all’interno dell'allora palazzo comunale, risultò troppo angusto per le esigenze della cittadinanza; si decise allora per la costruzione di una nuova struttura e ne fu affidato il progetto all’architetto Ireneo Aleandri. I lavori iniziarono l'anno successivo e durarono dieci anni. Nel corso di questo periodo intervenne a dirigere i lavori l’architetto romano Francesco Vespignani, che cercò di rispettare la progettazione apportando minime modifiche (i palchi passarono da tredici a quindici) terminando il lavoro nel 1883. Il teatro comunale di Pollenza è l’ultima opera progettata dall’Aleandri, che ormai giunto oltre gli ottant’anni, aveva difficoltà a recarsi in cantiere.
Little Marche jewel dedicated to Giuseppe Verdi
In 1872 the small theater of the mask, which since the seventeenth century was located inside the then municipal building, was too narrow for the needs of the citizens; it was then decided to build a new structure and the project was entrusted to the architect Ireneo Aleandri. The works began the following year and lasted ten years. During this period the Roman architect Francesco Vespignani intervened to direct the work, trying to respect the design by making minimal changes (the boxes went from thirteen to fifteen) finishing the work in 1883. The municipal theater of Pollenza is the last work designed by Aleandri, who had reached the age of eighty, had difficulty getting to the construction site.
